The Case for Hearing Aid

As most of you know, I desperately need a hearing aid. My left ear is really bad and my right is not much better. Often times I hear people totally wrong, either causing laughter or hurt feelings. I am in complete denial about the whole thing and probably a little vain. I really don't want a hearing aid but it is so bad that surgery won't correct the problem. Unfortunately, the only solution is the aids.

Today I had a moment where I was reminded that I need to solve this once and for all! Much to my chagrin.

As I walked through the living room today Z said, "Mom, you look like a diva."

Why, it is time someone in this house noticed!

My reaction was one of surprise and appreciation. Actually, my reaction was way over the top. I walked away a little taller in my flip-flops thinking I was a super star in my children's eyes. (It didn't dawn on me that I should be wondering WHERE he learned the word "Diva", but I guess he has heard worse--probably from the girl)

After returning from taking laundry to the kitchen, Z was still standing in the exact same spot with a look of bewilderment on his face. I have seen this look before on my dear friends after I reacted to what I thought they said instead of actually hearing the real words. Feeling "knocked down a peg" I asked him what he really said.

"Mom, you look like a ZEBRA." Oh, right. The striped shirt.

Diva--zebra it's all the same. When you think about it a zebra is really a horse in diva-wear.
