One feature I would love to put in his new bathroom is a hatch. Not for dirty clothes, mind you. But a human boy hatch. I am picturing a ladder or skinny staircase that he could climb up and into our closet. That way he wouldn't feel so far away in the middle of the night.
Can you tell I am having a hard time with this?
During the planning stages, I told Skip about my great idea. He didn't smile, or laugh, or more importantly, agree. His only comment was that I had to tell the builders that I want our 6 year old to climb a 10 foot ladder at 3am AND that I want a sizable hole cut into our closet floor. If I have the nerve to tell them, then THE HATCH is ours.
Wisdom flows from that man.
When you say it like that it does sound a tad bit ridiculous and possibly life-threatning. So, thank you, my sweet Amber, for your idea. Honestly, walkie talkies NEVER crossed my mind. I think that might just do the trick.
And they sound a little less fatal.

Glad you are back! Walkies are a good idea (I know what you mean about the 3am little voice next to your bed...). I think mine might about the walkie talkie privilege, I think! =) So glad your pregnancy is going well too.
I would miss my little Jack just as much! Walkies are indeed a good idea! :)
I don't know, George would probably make a "hatch". Grumbling, but he would do it.
This is the same guy who made a 3rd floor bedroom on top of a house BEFORE he did the HUGE unfinished basement.
He fulfills dreams and wishes. :)
Love the walkie idea...be sure to put it by your good ear. :)
Hmmm, too bad. The Hatch sounds kind of fun. What about a hide out? A special "boys club" room. That would be fun too!
Oh, walkie talkies are a GREAT idea!
When I first saw this post, I thought maybe you were going to be blogging about how much you love "Lost". Hee hee.
The first house we lived in when we moved back to MI had the master on the main floor, and the other 2 bedrooms on the lower level. It was really weird for us, to be so far away from our girls. But they were right underneath us, so we could hear them really well, and we still felt close to them because of that.
Walkies are a great idea, though.
I love these glimpses into your mothering heart, Janelle. You are so sweet.
Walkies are a great idea! Aren't we so thankful for our husbands and the wisdom they give....most days. Ha!
Thank the Lord for wise husbands! Funny--I can picture that entire dialogue with ease....much like it has happened at my home recently. Do you think that is why we still don't have a pool? Hmmm.
We had a laundry hatch in our house growing up. I willing jumped down it when I was a kid (no ladder). It was not pleasant. As a matter of fact, that might explain a few things about me. Yeah, I'm gonna say that hatch may not be such a good idea after all.
I had to laugh at your husband's response. How smart and creative. :o)
Aaaaw... hope the transition is going beautifully! I did chuckle at your hubby's response. :)

Okay... not sure where my comment went, so I'll try again. (But if I show up twice... you'll know why!)
Keilani would love a hatch like that. But now she is wanting a clubhouse I suggested she should have. I have yet to talk to my hubby about that though, and have a feeling it's gonna take some convincing!
And I agree with everyone else, your hubby's response was funny!
Janelle,
You could do what Josh and I did in an apartment we rented. We had our two year old sleeping in a closet in our room. Mind you it was a roomy walk-in but a closet none the less. I am quite a hover mother. Don't worry we didn't close the door on her.
