We noticed Z's vision problems at his 7 year checkup with the pediatrician. He couldn't read the last two lines on the chart. That was in April and we put it off as long as possible. Since school started we have really noticed a discrepancy. In class, he walks right up to the board and reads a few words then goes to his desk to copy them down. Repeat until finished. Chapter books were becoming harder for him because the print is smaller and close together.
It was time
His first words..."WOW!! I thought I was seeing normal." Right after we left the doctor, he wanted to run back to school to show his teacher and look at his classroom. Mrs. B was so excited for him and I have never seen him so proud. All night long he was looking at things with glasses and without. He was in awe. Another bonus, he actually wanted to read. Let that soak in. He wanted to read. Everything.
Worth it to me.
My sweet boy, I am so proud of you. Now quit growing and changing so fast. My head is spinning and my heart is bursting. I pray that no one hurts your feelings. Trust me on this, there are people that will call you names. Four eyes for example. Stay strong, son, and know that you are loved.

oooo, I want to cry!!!! I can't believe he had to get glasses! But he does look very cute in them. I pray that no one makes fun of him either. But you know they will. Just prepare him for that and hopefully the joy of him seeing better will overcome any teasing he will get. But they look so cute, I don't know why anyone would make fun.
He looks so great!
He has a friend on the playground. JP and I talked last night about sticking up for his buddy if anyone happens to be "not nice about the glasses".
Our boys are so sweet, I don't think it ever even occurred to JP that some kids are mean when it comes to things like glasses.
Loved this post! He looks great - so happy & relieved, really. And check out Loulabelle's face! She is either in awe of her brother or completely coveting his new frames. :) Either way, that look should make him feel good.
(oops, I deleted my first post due to a spelling error. Sorry about that!)
That brought tears to my eyes. The fact that he was SO excited to show them off to his teacher is just precious. And they look SO cool on him! There's just something about that boy that goes straight to my heart.
He looks so handsome & studious with his glasses on! I love hearing your heart for you little ones! And I know it has been awhile since I've read blogs & I love your new look!
He looks great! I am so glad the glasses help him so much.
ok. first because i'm shallow. your kid looks SO CUTE in glasses.
there. i've said it.
(and the kamp necklace? i LOVE it.)
i'm so excited for him wanting to do all the things he couldn't.
so pumped for your little man, who apparently is NOT so little.
What a tender post... I was there with you feeling it all. I agree, he looks very handsome and studious with his new frames. Can I admit, I've always wanted to wear glasses? I know that it's crazy especially since I've been blessed with good vision... but I'm a little jealous of the accessory quality of glasses!!
Way to go Z-man... enjoy seeing everything for the first time... again!
I think he looks quite handsome! Of course, I married a "four eyes", so I'm a little biased!
I think glasses are way cool! Z looks awesome. I don't think Elle needs a talk, she's going to be totally jealous!!
He looks really cute! I'm with Teresa, I secretly wanted glasses when I was his age. Of course, that didn't last long ;-) Glasses have come a long way since when we were little. Hopefully the kids won't even notice!
Love ya!
love your new look :o)
Z man looks great with his glasses. I think it is great that he has the same eye dr as you had when you were little.
I only visit MY eye doctor - who now lives 1500 miles from here. So when I go home, I go for my appointment, stock up on contacts, etc..( He did Morgan's first eye exam last year. ) I probably should find somebody local but hey when you are comfortable and there is generally no need to go more than once a year.... and I like the guy!
He is just as cute as he can be in those! I think it's great that he's so excited about them. Annnnd, I need to go to the eye doctor.
how sweet! you are a good mama! =)
Oh, I remember too well the day I got glasses. I could see each leaf on trees - and I was amazed!
Your son looks cute in his glasses. I'm glad he's so excited about his new vision.
What a sweet post, for a sweet boy:-).
Oh my, I go away for a little while and look what happens...you get a whole new look! Very nice!!!
My sister had bifocals in 1st grade. He really looks mature and distinguished in them. Glad he was so excited about being able to see better. That makes it all worth while.
